General information

Are you familiar with the works of J. R. R. Tolkien? Has The Lord of the Rings got you under its spell? Would you like to share you're thoughts with likeminded people? The Finnish Tolkien Society is an organisation for the friends of Tolkien's works, and other fantasy literature as well, all over Finland. Our members include all kinds of fans. Some know the entire work of Tolkien almost by heart, while others are just generally interested in fantasy. Meetings gather all these people under the same roof to discuss and to have fun. Our magazines bring our members news from Finland and all over the world, as well as articles, book reviews and short stories.

The Finnish Tolkien Society is run by a committee which is elected on a yearly basis. We have two publications: Hobittilan Sanomat (Hobbiton News), our newsletter, which comes out about four times a year, and Legolas, the best and the only magazine in Finland focusing solely on fantasy literature. We organize official meetings at least six times each year. In addition to this, monthly meetings are held in larger cities. These meetings involve refreshments, conversation, games and, of course, Tolkien. We also have active local divisions, called smials, all over Finland.

Joining (in Finland) is easy. Just pay 15 euros, which covers one year's membership and magazines, to our bank account in Nordea, FI95 2001 1800 0427 42, and send the receipt, with your name and address, to our PO box (Suomen Tolkien-seura ry, PL 215, 00131, Helsinki). Please use 5005 as reference number. Family membership for another member of the same family is 8 euros, which covers the membership, but not the magazines. If you do not live in Finland but would still like to join, please contact suomentolkienseura (at) gmail.com for details on how to join!

As well as receiving two quality publications and participating in meetings, you'll receive a membership card, which among other things allows for a discount at Fantasiapelit, a store specialising in fantasy and sci-fi related games.
